Ginger beer originated in England in the 1700's and was a fermented alcoholic beverage - a far cry from today's sodas which form the base of many Dark & Stormy's in these parts.
Numerous bottlers of ginger beer existed in Nova Scotia in the late 1800's - early 1900's. This particular design was from a bottle circa 1890. Today a fantastic collection of Ginger Beer earthenware bottles can be found at the Museum of Industry in Stellarton, NS.
The bottles remain highly collectible items - the shirt is a little easier to come by.
